1- Vada Pav
Vada pav, which is a combination of the Hindi words “pav” meaning bread and “vada” meaning potato, means “potato bread”.
Although there are many theories about the origin of vada pad, the most common of these theories is that it was made by Ashok Vaidya at a stall at Mumbai Dadar Railway Station in 1966. Another theory is that the Vaze family, also living in Mumbai, started selling from a window of their house overlooking the street. Although it is not known which story is true, Vada Pav spread to India from Mumbai.
Vada Pav is made by putting spicy potato balls coated with hot pepper sauce and fried inside the bread. This dish, which is especially famous in Mumbai, is also known as “Bombay Burger” because it resembles a burger.
2- Dahi Puri
Hatta puri, also known as panipuri and golgappa, originates from Mumbai, the heart of India. Even puri, which is used as a snack instead of a meal, is made by adding spicy and juicy potatoes or chickpeas into a fried dough called “puri”.
First of all, puris, rolled thinly and shaped into round shapes, are thrown into hot oil. Puris, which swell as they cook, become thin and crispy after cooling. On the other hand, parsley, fresh coriander, hot pepper, fresh mint, fresh ginger and green lemon juice are turned into liquid in the blender. On the other side, boiled potatoes, onion, fresh coriander, parsley and boiled chickpeas are mixed. Puris are served by piercing the top and adding the potato mixture and green juice.
3- Pav Bhaji
Pav bhaji, one of the most famous fast food dishes of India, especially Mumbai, is made by crushing and cooking finely chopped potatoes, onions, carrots, peas, peppers and tomatoes with curry. After cooking, it is served with green lemon, spicy onion and bread. Some also say that it is best eaten at Juhu Beach, the coastline of Mumbai.
Pav bhaji, which was eaten as lunch by workers working in textile factories in the first years of its discovery, spread to the stalls in Mumbai and later in India.
4- Biryani
Originating from Muslim Indians, biryani is a rice dish. In fact, it is rice mixed with Indian barahats, meat varieties, eggs and vegetables. The word biryani originates from Persian and means “rice”. Biryani, which was introduced to the region by Muslims who came to Northern India many years ago, has now spread all over India.
